There's a reason Chatham has always drawn people in. This lighthouse is part of it.
Melissa Hyatt painted Chatham Lighthouse from the grounds, looking up at the tall, banded white tower as it rises confidently against a soft blue and white sky. The composition is grounded and intimate: the cylindrical tower fills the right side of the card, its black lantern room and iron gallery railing silhouetted against loose, painterly clouds. To the left, the white keeper's house with its bold cherry-red roof anchors the scene, a small matching red-roofed outbuilding nestled between them. Vivid green grass stretches across the foreground, painted with the kind of confident brushwork that makes watercolor feel alive.
Chatham Lighthouse has one of the most storied histories on Cape Cod. It was originally built as Twin Lights in 1808 — two towers standing side by side — making it one of the earliest light stations on the Cape. When one of those original towers was relocated to Eastham in 1923, it became Nauset Light. The single remaining tower was rebuilt in 1877 and has kept watch over the treacherous shoals of Chatham ever since. The lighthouse marks the famous "elbow" of Cape Cod, where the Cape bends sharply southward, some of the most dramatic waters on the New England coast.
