This shorebird joins my collection of local birds of Eastern Long Island. This distinct orange beak sets this bird apart for the others. These birds are hard to spot, they are shy and are very particular about where they nest.

I love the contrast of the black and white feathers with the orange accents on the eyes and beaks. My friend Jay is an amazing nature photographer and he graciously shares his images with me. This piece was inspired by one of his photos.
